What does success mean? Of course – completely different things to different people.
For some it’s money, fast cars and a rock and roll lifestyle.
For others it’s being able to send their children to private schools and several luxury holidays every year.
For others it’s the ability to travel the world, enjoying exotic experiences funded by a passive income.
For me the idea of ‘success’ has always been a bit vague.
Trouble is, I’m not a very materialistic person so I don’t have a dream car to focus on. Being on a yacht sounds a bit boring, my party days are over and my fingers are too fat for diamonds.
I don’t have children of my own so I don’t have to make any plans for schooling.
And there’s not much room for dogs in a Lambourghini.
What I do know…
I do know that I want to live somewhere with my own land and animals. That has always been a dead cert.
I do know that I want to live without worrying about how I am going to pay for bills.
I do know that I want to live without worrying about being able to buy everyday things.
I do know that I want to be able to afford to help others. In fact, I’d like to have enough to be able to really, really support the causes I am passionate about, although I don’t know exactly how much that needs to be.
But now I’ve put my name to Project Life Success, I know that I need to get more specific – quickly!
And I know I’m not alone. Most people say they don’t know what they want in life. (I know, I’ve asked a lot of them!)
Wealth experts talk about the importance of setting goals, because if you don’t set goals you can’t be sure when you have achieved anything.
Producing a list of goals that can be checked off (and then celebrated) whenever you reach them is a good way to boost yourself both physically and psychologically on your journey.
Plus, in the film The Secret we are told we need to be really specific in what we ask of the Universe. Without specifics, the Universe doesn’t know what to bring us. And that’s what the Law of Attraction is all about – ask for what you want, believe you will achieve it, and finally receive it.
(I don’t claim to be a Law of Attraction expert, by the way, but I do have a growing list of examples where it has worked for me. Since I started taking action, I have seen some amazing results – so to slightly contradict my previous paragraph, I absolutely think that asking and believing COMBINED WITH action can produce incredible results.)
Take a look at this quote, attributed to Beyonce. Now there is someone with a definite list she can check off against!
“As soon as I accomplish one thing, I just set a higher goal. That’s how I’ve gotten to where I am.”
I always rather envied people who had specific goals and ambitions when they were young, it clearly gave them the drive to do remarkable things at a young age. Although I was a great employee, I’ve never taken particularly focused steps in my own life – at least, not until now.
Do I wish I’d done it earlier? Probably – but then I might not have been ready in myself. Or I could have smashed it, I’ll never know. Anyway, there is no point wasting an iota of energy in regretting not doing anything, the important thing to do now is to crack on now with whatever time is left.
It’s Time for Action
So here goes. I’ve put a list of my goals here and I’ll mark them off as I achieve each of them (hopefully I will get to do that!)
Writing a list of goals wasn’t an easy task to do, because we humans are generally not in the habit of setting ourselves specific goals. Most of us just bumble through life saying we’d love to do things and then mostly never doing them.
Creating a vision board was key in helping me determine my goals and I’d recommend you give it a go.
It’s really good fun to find photos of things you want and then stick them to a piece of cardboard. And it will help focus your mind like nothing else!
